This is a wonderful way to encourage creativity, use writing and speaking skills, and demonstrate independent skills, along with comprehension in following steps through this WebQuest to produce a Puppet Show!
A great way to supervise this WebQuest is to create a time and location for the kids to meet. For example, conduct a Puppet Workshop at the Library. The best ages for this type of production are ages 8-11. Hold 6 sessions - with the last session being the Puppet Show for family and friends!
Below is a sample of what each session could involve. Session 1 - Puppet Show WebQuest
Have kids explore the WebQuest. Meet back together to discuss different puppet types, stage creation, script ideas, invitations and date/time of performance.
Session 2 - Puppet Creation
Provide materials for the kids to create their puppets. Show support but let the kids work out any problems.
Session 3 - Script Writing
This area is where they'll need the most guidance. They will have a basic idea and characters but will need help fleshing out the details. I usually use a story organizer similar to this one:
Once the basics for the story are complete, they can began writing out character lines!
Session 4 - Practice/Stage Making/Invitations
They have the script but now need to practice! Have each group practice in front of the other groups with there puppets. Next begin production on the puppet stage. Remember - they will already have ideas from the WebQuest but if they need to refresh their memories - have then look at the WebQuest 'Process' section again. Lastly, have them make their invitations using the interactive wesite in the WebQuest.
Session 5 - Video Taping/Final Details
Now that the stage, puppets, and script is ready - video tape each group in a rehearsal format. Provide popcorn and drinks while you watch the video tape - lots of fun! Finish up any remaining details to puppet stage, etc.
Session 6 - Performance!
Now you can sit back and let the kids perform for their family and friends! Guaranteed fun summer activity!!
